GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2004

Guy Smith's Bio:

Guy Smith has been slinging his guitar and singing his original songs of protest, workers rights, peace and freedom around Edmonton for the past decade. Guy believes in the power of cultural resistance -- that music and other forms of art need to play a significant role in the struggles for social justice, freedom and democracy.

Usually found agitating through song on picket lines, rallies and demonstrations Guy has also been in the recording studio releasing his debut CD "Red Square Dance" in 2002.

In one review of the CD, the writer described Guy's music as "railing against injustice; influenced by the power of Billy Bragg and/or channelling the ghost of Woody Guthrie" He has also been compared to pop/rock artist Paul Weller.

More often than not these days Guy can be seen on stage with his new band which includes Jeff Emsley, Craig Abramowski, and Tom Murray. The aim of the band is to agitate, to entertain and to get people up doing the dance of resistance.

Although Guy's time is divided between music and caring for his two young daughters (with heavy emphasis on the latter) he is also a proud member of the IWW Edmonton GMB and an activist in his other union.
