The working class and the employing class have nothing in common.
On Saturday, October 15 in Churchill Square, Occupy Edmonton will be launching a mass rally in support of the Occupy Movement in 1300 cities worldwide and counting. The Edmonton branch of the Industrial Workers of the World plans to attend and gives their support to this initiative.

There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life.
We recognize that the Arab Spring has given shape to the American Fall, brought home in the form of the Wisconsin labour uprising against draconian labour law. We supported the Wisconsin struggle, and we support the more recent Occupy movements in Wall Street and elsewhere, which is it’s continuation.

Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organize as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the Earth.
We recognize that the majority of American society, the working class, is being forced to pay the price for the collapse of the banking sector in America. We also recognize that the Canadian working class will be forced to support the profitability of the Canadian social elites in the form of new rounds of austerity measures, unless we organize and fight to bring this to a grinding halt.

It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism.
Therefore, our membership will be in attendance to support the grassroots fightback, the vast majority against the 1%, the social elites, as we have always done as an organization since it’s inception. The working class, through it’s labour, gives enough to provide to all, just to have this social wealth stolen and sold back to us through wage slavery, private property law and repression.

The army of production must be organized, not only for everyday struggle with capitalists, but also to carry on production when capitalism shall have been overthrown.
We keep the machinery of a livable society running, and organize it’s operation, only to have our collective effort controlled and commodified by the elite parasites
that would keep our society in their control through capitalist war, manipulation, and eventual dictatorship. The working class built and maintained our social system,
so we should take it over for the benefit of everyone.

We will see everyone at Churchill Square Saturday, October 15, 2011.
Solidarity.

The Edmonton IWW Propaganda/Education Committee and the Alberta Public Interest Research Group are pleased to announce this year’s fall Organiser Training 101!

The IWW’s Organiser Training is an intensive, hands-on, two day workshop where
participants learn basic tools needed to successfully organize
their workplaces to collectively and directly address workplace issues.

These tools are taught through role plays, group facilitated discussion, and
interactive lectures. Topics include: gathering contact information, approaching
co-workers, building an organizing committee, and legal issues relevant to
workers who participate in workplace organizing.

OT 101 is a great space to learn new skills and practice those you
already have! Breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided.
If you need child care, that can be arranged, just please tell us in advance.

Besides the training itself, we are trying to arrange a speaker for the
Friday night, and Friday/Saturday generally have IWW social events in
the evening as well.

Save the date:
Organizer Training 101
Saturday/Sunday September 10/11
University of Alberta campus (exact location to be determined)

If you are going to attend please RSVP to Medwards with the following information:

Name:

Phone #:

Occupation (Industry):

Other (Dietary needs, childcare required, transportation, billeting):

(Seriously, RSVP; knowing who’s coming helps us plan.)
We look forward to hearing back from you!

Bonus! storytime: Once upon a time I skipped OT because whatever, I’d already
been, I’ve got that stuff down pat. Then I got a job where it would have been
really useful, and I’d forgotten everything, and I regretted my decision!
Don’t be me, come to OT!

Some of the moving stories in this book simply draw a vivid picture of some of the ways young workers are oppressed; others propose actions that workers can take towards bettering their workplaces. It is hoped that the book may inspire workers young and old to make changes of their own.

The launch party for Shift was a great success! People bought copies and had them signed by the artists at Happy Harbor Comics on November 20, 2008. Look for copies at local (Edmonton) comic book stores or order yours directly from the branch (link to order form below)!

Shift in Progress is a publication of the Edmonton branch of the Industrial workers of the World and was funded through Edmonton’s 2007 Cultural Capital Community Program, “Voices Less Heard.”
